Yesterday was my second year anniversary in Australia!! TWO whole years man?! I’m sure all of my posts begin with me expressing my sheer disbelief at how fast time is whizzing by. But it is though!! I remember when I first came away and I didn’t even consider being away for two years then. The thought of one year was long enough! Now look at me, I’m practically Aussie. Although two years later, my accent hasn’t toned down one little bit – I’m destined to talk like a radgy forever – but that’s ok because I love being a Geordie! So just like the post I did last year, I will use photos from the past year to carry on from ‘One Whole Year!’ to show some of the best times and memories I’ve made in this amazing country with some very special people…
“I’ll tell you how it all started… On Friday 11th October 2013, I left Newcastle. My Mam and Dad dropped me off at the airport in the early hours of the morning and I literally had to run away after giving them a kiss and a cuddle goodbye. I couldn’t cry in front of them. I’m supposed to be nails!! Anyway, I did cry…”
‘One Whole Year’ – October 2014
I know that I have changed a lot as a person since coming away (I’m not as “nails” as I thought I was for a start). It’s definitely what I needed for personal growth. It’s opened my mind so much more and made me into such a better person than I once was. And look what else happened…I met “the man of my dreams” (LOLz) on TINDER (of all things and places), who happens to live only an hour or so down the road from me at home (in England). What are the chances?! It’s mad how things work out.
I’ve watched friends old and new, come and go, and laughed my tits off over and over again. I commented last year about the highs and lows and to be really honest, there have been absolutely no lows in this past year. I’ve enjoyed every single bit of it and made the most of this amazing opportunity.
So thanks for having me Australia…but you’re not getting rid of me that easily!
Here we go…
So I moved in with Little Chrissy in October2014 (I’ve lived with a boy for a year now – CRIPES)!
All my mates left so all I pretty much did on my days off was swan around getting massages and chilling in the sun…. Content!
Until it got too hot and this happened…
And we ate out…a lot! (my fave. FOOD)!
I found a boat called the Laurie M in Darwin. What are the chances?! Definitely a sign to stay…
I didn’t drink for one whole month…but that all changed when I went to Bali with the girls!
We had an exquisite time! (Please can we just take a moment to take in what is happening to Swenton in this pic)
Then it was just me and Swenton left to take on the world! (If you zoom in on this pic, Hanna looks like Jimmy Saville)…
…and Jackie the goat was a major distraction in Gili T.
We made it to Aus in one piece starting off in Brisbane.
…and stayed with Kate, Arthur and the pooches again.
Then we stealthily made our way to Rainbow Beach to surprise Little Chrissy
The surprise was a success and we had a mint time on Fraser Island!
We bombed around in 4×4’s on the sand with our crazy tour guide BRETTO! What a hero!
A couple of nights were spent back in Surfers Paradise for Little Chrissy’s birthday before we parted ways for 3 weeks and continued our separate trips in opposite directions on the East Coast
I was reunited with Ginge etc…but then he stole Swenton from me and had a holiday romance! Ooh la la.
So then it was on to our proper adventure and we got our campervan! Swenton drove for the first time since passing her test and this was also a monumental moment, her first pump.
We hit Bruce Highway heading up to tropical North Queensland
First stop was Airlie Beach where we boarded the Atlantic Clipper boat for 2 nights to sail around the Whitsunday Islands
…but things got out of hand.
It was sooo beautiful!! (No filter on this bad lad)
…but the weather took a turn for the worse when we were on the famous Whitehaven Beach and we got smashed by what felt like bricks. Hardest rain EVER!! It was absolutely hilarious though and it made the trip unforgettable.
After consuming far too much wine for 3 nights, we hit Bruce again and stopped off at amazing places like this for lunch… I love you Bruce ❤
…and it was countdown to skydive day! I was seriously shitting myself for days before hand but look how happy I am man!? One of the best things I did!
We finally made it to Cairns after 10 days in the van and did what we did best….drank wine. Surely you see how much of a bad influence Swenton is on me by now?
We then flew to Sydney to stay with the good old Darwin lot for Christmas
More wine was consumed (it was Christmas after all) and I was reunited with some heroes
…and some more heroes. The Geordies together on Christmas Day
It came to the end of the Moses and Swenton adventure. It was a very sad day! We had the best time ever together and I still laugh about it all now – hysterically – almost one year on! Definitely something I have to do again. There’s nothing like travelling with your best friends.
…but I did miss Little Chrissy and I couldn’t wait to get back to Darwin with him. This is how he greeted me at the airport. Awwww…..
I was dreading wet season before I got back, but it wasn’t bad at all! We watched some amazing storms and sunsets – like this one. No filter. Ooooh.
Little Chrissy bought us Land Rover and we went on adventures around the NT (Yes I was off the drink after 6 weeks with Swenton)
Waterfalls and camp sites were pretty much deserted and we had them all to ourselves! Perfect.
Do what you want here!! OK!
In March we moved to our new place with our wicked views. I fell in love with it straight away!
We had some great house-mates too (THANK YOU GOD)!
On March 28th (my mam and dad’s wedding anniversary) I flew back home to surprise them…but my dad was away playing golf!
I had a mint time at home with my friends and was asked to be bridesmaid for my best friend!
I had a trip to London with the girls. A lot of walking. A lot of wine!
…but literally in the blink of an eye, it was my last night at home. Just under 4 weeks of eating LOTS and spending time with my nearest and dearest. I loved every minute of it!
Then I was back in Darwin with Little Chrissy ready to take on dry season
Oh and while I was at home, he bought a BOAT! He loves his toys.
I became old and boring and shopping for housey things became thrilling! This is our plant, Plant ‘n’ Dec.
I thought I would hammer going out over the dry season but I seeeriously can’t be arsed any more. I swapped pubs and clubs for coffee joints like this…
…but obviously I indulged at times.
…especially in our back garden in the pool. I very rarely made it out after an afternoon of wine in the pool! Oopsies.
I just like to chill and do stuff with Little Chrissy 🙂
…like taking the boat out and driving it whilst selfie videoing it the whole time he was wake boarding behind me. Talent right there.
…and go to Mindil markets for sunset. And FOOD!
We went on a lot of camping trips to different stops around the Top End
…and some wicked little adventures through the arse end of nowhere!
I had another birthday (twenty effing eight) and went to the races
We did try to be social at times…like at festivals. But they were shit. (CHRIST I’M OLD)!
And what a shock…Chris bought another toy. A quad! We went on some adventures…
…but I clearly loved it. Good buy Little Chrissy!
Then to top off the end of my second year, STOYKES came up to D Town to visit!! STOYKESES REUNITED!!
So that’s that!! Eeee what a bloody good 2 years it’s been…and I’m so lucky to still be here! I am so excited to see what this next year has in store too. Starting with Thailand in 6 weeks and an extended Christmas at home after that (and meeting the in-laws!! Seriously, I’m excited x10000!!!!
Life really is mint and I can’t wait for the new memories already!
