ONE WHOLE YEAR!

Okay, let’s pretend its 3 days ago now. Sunday, a year to the day that I arrived in Australia. I was meant to upload this post then but I ended up extremely hungover, then out again…then moved house Monday…blah blah blah… I’m annoyed at myself for not doing it then but what can I do? Nowt. Better late than never…

HAPPY ONE YEAR IN AUSTRALIA TO MEEEE!!!

HAPPY ONE YEAR IN AUSTRALIA TO MEEEE!!!

I arrived in Australia one year ago today! HAPPY ONE AUSTRALIA YEAR TO ME!!! I must say, it feels like it’s been the fastest year of my life and also the best! They do say time flies when you’re having fun… I really can’t believe it has been a whole year since I left Newcastle and last saw my family, friends and of course my pretty little cat, Julie. It’s safe to say that I’m feeling a little home sick and needy as I write this *sigh*…

Here’s a quick post of my year in pictures (no need to sit down with a cuppa to read this one). Please bear in mind though, I have only just recently upgraded my old IPhone 4 (Nana Moses) with it’s absolute turd camera, to an IPhone 5 (still Nana Moses).  So for that reason, most of my photos are poor quality. That and the fact that a lot were taking whilst intoxicated, but I still wanted to share them. Obviously, I can’t document everything on here. There’s some things that are personal, some things that I’d rather forget and of course, some things (and most probably the best) that weren’t even caught on camera! I also have over 5000 of my own photos from the past year, and that doesn’t even include tagged photos on Facebook. So this post would be a good few mile long if I posted them all. What can I say, I love photos! I swear I was one of the most hated people on a night out back in Newcastle. The tosser with the camera who would always catch you looking sweaty and a little less than your usual best.

So to commence the little picture story, I’ll tell you how it all started… On Friday 11th October 2013, I left Newcastle. My Mam and Dad dropped me off at the airport in the early hours of the morning and I literally had to run away after giving them a kiss and a cuddle goodbye. I couldn’t cry in front of them. I’m supposed to be nails!! Anyway, I did cry, as did my friend Sarah, but only once we were away from them. One of them laugh cries where you don’t know what to do because you feel a bit silly for actually crying. We had the standard airport Burger King (obvz) then flew to Heathrow where we waited for our next flight to Kuala Lumpur which would be 12 hours on one flight!! How does it stay up in the air that long?? And it was one of these absolute MASSIVE ones!! I was (as you can probably tell) scared of flying at the time and had already necked one of the sleeping pills prescribed to me by the doctor before my flight to London. I wasn’t feeling tired at all once I got there and decided to have another one, so I would be able to sleep the whole 12 hours. Well, that didn’t happen! I was awake the full flight, agitated and I just could not for the life of me get comfy, even though I had a window seat with plenty of space. I arrived in Kuala Lumpur feeling grumpy. I just wanted to get there but we had another wait before the next flight. So we finally got on the next plane and it wasn’t half as nice as the first. We were also separated on this one and I got stuck next to a young teenager, who decided to tell me all about his model plane collection (oh lovely). Not only that, I was stuck on the aisle seat this time and the sleeping pills were starting to kick in big time! The next thing I know, the stewardess is tapping me on the shoulder asking me to sit up as I’d fell asleep and flopped over the side of my chair, spilling into the aisle.

When we finally got off that long arse flight in Brisbane, we were welcomed by Kate and Arthur. A couple I’d never met and didn’t even know, but Kate was the sister of my Mam’s friend, who drunkenly invited me to stay at her sister’s house in Australia. Very kindly, Kate and Arthur both accepted their sister’s cheeky invite. I could have been a lunatic or anything! They stood in front of the doors with a cardboard sign and as I was doing my introducing, my best friend Holly and her boyfriend Richard, jumped out from behind a bin and surprised me! The sneaky little buggers. They were both travelling at the time and I knew they were going to try and meet me for a day but not that day! You can imagine my surprise. I literally couldn’t speak (there is video evidence to prove this) and obviously I screamed out a massive ‘Eeeeeee MY GOD!’

Anyway, we went our separate ways for the night and arranged for Holly and Richard to come to Kate’s the following day. When we got back we were welcomed again by 3 of the cutest pooches ever! I fully intended on getting a good sleep as soon as I got in but things got a little out of hand and we ended up sinking 4 or 5 bottles of wine, going to bed at 2am and waking up at 6am! Urgh. Welcome to Aus!!

My first day in Australia with Kate and Holly

Rachael arrived the day after us (sorry about the picture - drunk, tired, jet lag...) ooof!!

Wicked's bucket of rust. Cheers!

It was time for the road trip to Sydney. Wicked Campers gave us this very discreet bucket of rust…

Happy campers

Happy campers. This was obviously before we drove 12 hours to Sydney and wanted to smash our own heads off brick walls… We slept in a car park this night in the middle of God knows where!

New Years Eve in Sydney

We watched the famous fireworks on New Years Eve in Sydney. Drunk, tired, hungover, tipsy, tired and hungover again, all in the space of 12 hours.

Lurker...

Tourists. Lurker in the back.

This photo actually makes me laugh now… We were so sick of sleeping at the side of roads in that sweaty van, having nature wees, showering at the public showers at the beach… I WANT TO DO IT AGAIN NOW!!

As we crossed the Victoria border, we were desperate for somewhere to park up and sleep. We came across Genoa. Population of 80 people (apparently). No electricity till 1992 (and clearly not been decorated since then). Funniest night!!

Melbourne

So we finally made it to Melbourne after 10 days in the camper. We booked into a hostel straight away! There aren’t many photos of Melbourne. I felt awful at this point from a diet of fast food whilst in the van… Swollen!

But we didn't stay long. Me and Rach ran out of money (oopsies) after a week and decided to fly back to Brisbane. Rachael dressed like this with her flight socks...REALLY!?

But we didn’t stay long. Me and Rach ran out of money (oopsies) after a week and didn’t like how cold it was at all, so we decided to fly back to Brisbane. Rachael then put me through the humiliation of dressing like this with her flight socks…REALLY!?

Kate and Arthur - HEROES

Then we were back at Kate and Arthur’s 🙂 HEROES

IMG_5649

We went sailing and I felt so sick that I couldn’t speak. That’ll teach me for stuffing my face with lasagne before hand! NEVER AGAIN!

Nice helmets...

Me and Rach landed ourselves jobs together in a cafe, 4 miles away. So we got bikes. Nice helmets…

Aussie wifey x

The Rach left me at the end of February. Tears were shed!!!

Ami

So I hopped on a 5 hour flight across the country to Perth (I STILL can’t believe how big this country is) to live with one of my best pals, Ami and her boyfriend, who I hadn’t seen for 2 years!

Fave class ever

She got me obsessed with the gym again (good lass) and I never missed a step class. Seriously fast music with a donk on it (of course). Rave step…

Serpentine Falls

We went on some adventures…

Stoykeses was formed...

Aimee also moved to Perth and Stoykeses was formed…

Lasses x

The usual weekenders… Rach, Nicola (2A as I mentioned in a previous post) and of course, Stoykes. As you can tell by the clobber we are wearing, Perth got cold. Too cold!

Surfing

We went on a surfing lesson…

Surfing injury

…and this fat lip happened! Nearly knocked out by my surf board.

Geri...my Perth mam

So I had Kate, my pretend Mam in Brisbane. Then I had Geri…my Perth Mam. We worked together for the Department of Transport and she is more crackers than I am!

Flew to Darwin

I then decided to come to Darwin for some well deserved hot weather…

Friends (and beers)

We stayed in the Melaleuca Hostel and made some very canny friends 🙂

I met Little Chrissy at Summer Sessions festival. Where we lay on the floor for 6 hours because the music was so bad (Australian house music...WOW).
